Browns Point is a community that has a small town feel, yet only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of a thriving metropolitan city. Located across Commencement Bay from downtown Tacoma, Browns Point offers homes and properties in all price ranges. Most homes offer speculator views of the Puget Sound, the city of Tacoma, or Mt Rainier. Browns Point occupies the South and West shorelines of the Point that extends into Puget Sound, while it’s neighboring community, Dash Point, secures the Northern shorelines. Browns Point includes areas of the City of Tacoma (NE Tacoma) and unincorporated Pierce County. Depending on where you live in the community, you will be provided police and fire protection by either the City of Tacoma, Pierce County Sheriffs or Browns Point/Dash Point Fire Department.

Browns Point is located within the Tacoma School District. Elementary schools include, Browns Point and Crescent Heights. The middle school for the community is Meeker Middle School and is located adjacent to Crescent Heights. Students attending high school while living in the area have the opportunity to attend Stadium High School, which is a Historical Site and listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Tacoma school district is a highly decorated and nationally awarded school district.
Tacoma school district also offers students the opportunity to be enrolled in the highly sought after Science and Math Institute (SAMI). Families from around the country have relocated to the Tacoma area to give their kids a chance at this incredible program.
Preschool options in the area include, the Northpoint Cooperative Preschool, which is also a historical landmark, and Marine View Christian preschool. Both schools offer a great preschool atmosphere for your little ones.
Another highly sought after school is the Seabury School, which offers full day classes from pre-K through 6th grade for selected, gifted children
Dining and Shopping
There are many options for dining in Browns Point. No matter which restaurant you choose, you will feel right at home with the welcoming small town atmosphere. One restaurant that stands out and has been a Puget Sound landmark for years, is The Cliff House Restaurant which sits high atop the bluff, overlooking Commencement Bay. It’s hard to beat the breathtaking views of Mt Rainier and the city of Tacoma.
In the heart of the town is the Browns Point Town Centre, you will find many dining and shopping options to include the locals favorite breakfast at the Browns Point Diner, they also offer a great lunch and dinner menu. Attached to the back of the Diner, is the Sand Bar. The Sand Bar is the best place to gather for cocktails and to watch sporting events. Other options include the Hilltop Indian food and Pizza Corner, and the North 47 Brewing Company.
Browns Point Town Center also has your hardware needs met, offering the Browns Point Ace Hardware.
Entertainment in Browns Point centers around family fun and outdoor activities. Two marinas are located on the south shores of Browns Point. With the easy accessibility to the water, many residents choose to moor their boats to get out on the water. Cabbing, fishing, shrimping and dining at near by locations are all within minutes of getting on the water. The Browns Point Improvement Club also holds many events throughout the year, the fishing derby, nature day and Christmas ships are just a few. Check out their website for updated calendar.
The largest event that Browns Point is known for, is the Browns Point Salmon Bake. Held on the first weekend in August every two years at the Browns Point Improvement Club and Lighthouse Park, the Salmon Bake attracts people from all around the area for three days. You can feast on wood smoked salmon filets and other local cuisine while listening to the live bands or sitting in the beer garden. There are also plenty of booths for the kids to play games and participate in arts and crafts. The Salmon Bake is a must attend!
Parks and Recreation
The Centre at Norpoint located near Browns Point is a City of Tacoma Metroparks facility. The Centre offers a wide range of activities and amenities, to include: zero entrance indoor pool, child care while you workout, cardio room, racquetball courts, free weight room, basketball courts and indoor rock climbing wall, and much more. There are also a wide variety of classes and camps that you and your family can sign up for throughout the year. The Centre at Norpoint also has a spray/water park with restrooms behind the main facility with a full sized ball field.
Browns Point is also within 5 minutes of two golf courses. Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club is a private club which offers a 18 hole championship course layout, private club house, out door swimming pool, tennis courts and much more. There are a wide range of membership levels to suit every families needs. The Northshore public golf course is right around the corner and offers an 18 hole course with a full outdoor covered and uncovered, practice facility. Northshore also offers a private clubhouse area that members can use. They also offer a public clubhouse and restaurant.
In lower Browns Point, on the water, you will find the Lighthouse Park. As the name suggests, you will find a Lighthouse on the point that has been guiding vessels away from danger since 1933. Located next to the Browns Point Lighthouse Park, is the Browns Point Improvement Club (BPIC), clubhouse. The clubhouse is available throughout the year to rent out for weddings, parties and other special occasions. The Clubhouse faces due west and has incredible views of the Olympic Mountains, Tacoma Waterfront, Point Ruston, Point Defiance, Vanshon Island and spectacular sunsets almost every night. Residents who live within the Browns Point Improvement Club boundaries (HL), can join for $20 per year. With your membership, you get discounted rates on clubhouse rentals, private boat launch and parking privileges.
The Lighthouse Park also houses the Lightkeepers Cottage. This 1903 Cottage is on the National Historic Register and is a living museum. The Cottage is three bedrooms and is available to rent out for a historical weekend experience. The Points NE Historical Society manages and maintains the cottage.
Getting around from from the community is easy. With SR 509 going around the perimeter of the point, you have easy access to downtown Tacoma, and I-5 to easily get north and south on the I-5 corridor. You can also head due east through the Federal Way community of Twin Lakes to get to downtown Federal Way. At only 10 min away, you will find even more shopping and dining options.
